Kudos for Getting Started and Configure Workflow guides

Postby aliumonions » Mon Apr 09, 2012 8:43 am

Just wanted to give kudos about the excellent "Getting started" and "Configure a workflow in 10 steps" guides/tutorials. They made it very easy to get up and running quickly and didn't overwhelm me with information. Usually I find guides either drown new users with too much information, or they are so basic that they don't give the user enough information to actually get set up. These two however were concise and effective.

Thanks!

Actually these guides were rewritten several times, because this is exactly what was happened to them at the beginning - they were overwhelmed. :) I always thought it scares users away, and have remastered guides several times trying to keep them as simple as possible. By the moment I still was not sure whether they are simple enough, but your feedback made it clear. Thank you for that - you are the first who said a word about guides!
Best regards,
Artem

I think having extra (and possibly not immediately necessary) information on a different page but referenced with a link helps keeps the pages simpler. Then when the users advance to a point where they need more information than before they can go back to the links. I may have to steal that idea for use in my own guides!

Making guides is an art not a science, so you will probably be perpetually tweaking them until the end of time. I've found that I can always find something I think might make them better.
